A fierce warrior of the gladiator games of ancient Rome, Flamma is still one of the better known gladiators. This is a tribute to him, someone I believe, knew in his heart who and what he was, and was true to himself, to the end.  It’s true, legends never die. Ken

Flamma

A gladiator unrivaled,

The arena was his domain,

A fierce fighter, a champion,

Fearless warrior until the end.

Four times offered the rudis, his,

Freedom from the arena games,

Given the chance to fight no more,

To spare his life and walk away.

But four times he refused freedom,

Returning to the arena,

Returning to the bloody games,

And dying there upon the sand.

Many have speculated why,

He turned down freedom when offered,

I think he was true to himself,

Knowing in his heart who he was,

Gladiator until the end.

Some would say he died a legend,

But true legends don’t ever die.
